Industrial Prison Goat Farm – Evolve Our Prison Farms

Evolve Our Prison Farms is working to transition Canada’s new prison farm pilot project (industrial goat dairy for commercial sale, cow dairy for “research quota,” and buying/selling beef cattle) to a veganic model of plant-based agriculture.

"We are an intersectional campaign defending prisoner justice, animal justice, and environmental justice, and opposing any model that exploits or harms prisoners or animals. We have approached this through avenues of academia and activism, exposing the ways in which animal agriculture is not conducive to the rehabilitation and employability of prisoners, and advocating a transition to restorative evidence-based models of plant-based prison farms serving a social justice purpose."

In this video, Calvin Neufeld is speaking about the history of Evolve Our Prison Farms, the challenges and opportunities faced along the way, lessons learned, and strategies employed that have led to the recent announcement that the prison industrial goat farm will be “temporarily paused.”

Calvin is discussing where the campaign will go from here (and how you can help) to ensure that animal agriculture is completely eradicated from Canada’s prisons.

Evolve Our Prison Farms has launched a new petition to stop the prison industrial goat farm scheduled for construction in 2021 and Joyceville federal penitentiary in Kingston, Ontario.

This petition is being launched in parallel with a new report: Canada’s proposed prison farm program: Why it won’t work and what would work better
